Should a name like Sergiy Stakhovsky

send fear through the veins of tennis players on the ATP circuit? For a week this guy who is ranked 209 played like a champion and became the first 'Lucky Loser' to win an ATP tournament in 17 years. Lucky Loser is a player who loses in the qualifying round but stays in the neighborhood and takes the place of someone who can't play for whatever reason.

He beat the serving machine 6'10" Ivo Karlovic (no. 19) in the first round, followed by Victor Troicki, and the guy who pushed Federer to the brink in Australia Janko Tipsarevic (no. 40). Then in the semis he rolls Simone Bolelli in straight sets. The grand finale is handling number 23 Ivan Ljubicic (say that name 5 times real fast) 7-5 and 6-4. Ya gotta love it. As an avid underdog rooter Stakhovsky has made my week.

Stakhovky is 22 and from the Ukraine. I can't wait to see if his star continues to rise. What is more I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can get out on the court and face a guy who is supposed to beat me. The key word there is 'supposed'. You just never know.
