An American in the Quarters

What is Sam Querrey doing in the quarter finals at Monte Carlo? Remember, this is a clay court tournament. Americans can't play on clay. Anyone knows that. But, here is an American beating Carlos Moya in the first round and now seventh seeded Frenchman Richard Gasguet in the 3rd round. Does he stand a chance against the Djoker now? Hard to say. What is he doing right here. I only saw some clips so I don't know the answer.  Also, I am an American, so i don't have a clue as to how someone needs to play on clay. The next question may be even harder. If Querrey knows something about playing on this surface, does America put him on the Davis Cup team for its tie with Spain? Now that's a can of worms. Who do you replace from a team that has been together intact for several years? Well, maybe we better see how far Sam gets in this one.
